Sister Joan Najeeullah is a native of Newark, NJ, who became a practicing Muslim in her high school years at Weequahic. She holds a BA in Computer Science from Kean University.
Sister Joan is engaged in various civic organizations: she’s a member of the Somerset County Democratic Black Caucus, New Jersey Muslim Voters for Progress, and the Muslim League of Voters. She serves on the Board of the non-profit organization ‘People Helping People in Need,’ which includes planning and organizing youth activities and job coaching for individuals with disabilities. For many years, Sister Joan has actively served in numerous community and civic activities, interacting with and benefiting both Muslims and non-Muslims.
Sis. Joan is a long-standing member of Masjidullah-Plainfield, NJ, and has served as the chair of its Youth Committee planning events and collaborating with the sisters of Masjidullah. She loves spending special time with family, her trusted companions "Sisters in Harmony" and the community of Imam W.D. Mohammad (RA) at Masjid events.
Sister Joan retired from work with the State of NJ and now runs her own business, “Najee Products and Services, LLC,” which includes event planning, business consulting and product marketing. She has a passion for coordinating events and public relations.
She embraced the opportunity to work with The Muslim Journal's Managing Editor in preserving the legacy of this historic weekly publication, and she served as the National Chair of “A Time To Be Grateful” (ATTBG) Annual Fundraiser for over 14 years. She is now on the Executive Board of The Muslim Journal as Special Events Coordinator.
Sister Joan is married to Mahdee Najeeullah, and they share three children Waladeen, Kamal and Aisha, for whom she is thankful to Allah (swt) for their professional successes and their overall goodwill.
