A message from our Head of School
Dear WDS Family,
In a world where challenges abound, the light of Jewish education, community, and achdut (unity) is more essential than ever. At Westchester Day School, our mission to provide an exceptional dual curriculum grounded in Jewish and Zionist values is both a sacred responsibility and a source of tremendous pride. Every day, we nurture our students’ Jewish identities and help them grow into thoughtful, compassionate individuals who proudly carry the torch of Torah and mitzvot. These children are the shining lights of our future—representing Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael with a steadfast commitment to Jewish values and traditions, wherever life takes them.
There is a powerful teaching in Jewish tradition: מעט מן האור דוחה הרבה מן החושך —a small amount of light pushes away much darkness. This sentiment beautifully captures the theme of our 77th Anniversary Dinner. In a year filled with challenges and uncertainty, we have found hope and strength in the sparks of creativity, growth, and learning ignited daily in our students. Our children are future leaders of the Jewish community, bringing light to the world through chesed, middot tovot, and a profound sense of justice and responsibility.
Your partnership makes this possible. The Annual Dinner, our largest fundraiser of the year, is critical to meeting the evolving needs of our school. It enables us to continue offering an exceptional education, addressing the social-emotional well-being of our students, and creating enriching experiences that empower them to shine even brighter.
We warmly invite you to join us Motzei Shabbat, Saturday, December 14, as we come together to celebrate the bright future we are building at WDS.
This year, we are privileged to honor:
- Rachel Berger Groner (WDS ’94) and Samuel Groner, Guests of Honor, who exemplify unwavering dedication to WDS and inspire through their commitment to Jewish education and community.
- Pamela & Aaron Lauchheimer, Guests of Honor, who have made a lasting impact on both WDS and the broader community. As a past WDS Board President, Aaron provided steady leadership during transformative moments for the school, and together with Pamela, they continue to quietly strengthen and elevate the community through their dedication and support.
- Dena Ingerman, recipient of the Nediv Lev Award, whose extraordinary chesed and volunteerism have enriched our school.
- Jolanta Goldstein, recipient of the Faculty Award, whose creativity and passion have inspired and transformed hundreds of students through the arts.
We look forward to welcoming you on December 14 for a night of celebration and community. Together, we will continue to bring light to the world through the power of education and shared values.
With warmest regards,
Rabbi Dani Rockoff
