David Mushiev
Educator of the Year

“My philosophy about Science Education is simple - science is fun, it is everywhere, and for everyone.”

David Mushiev was born in Bukhara, Uzbekistan.  Before he was able to complete the music academy, his family repatriated to the Promised Land of Israel.  He graduated high school soon after arriving in Israel and went to serve in the IDF as a member of the Golani Brigade. After demobilizing and leaving the army, David married the lady of his dreams, Marina, and they soon became parents of two sets of twins. David received a BA in mathematics and physics from the State College Seminar HaKibutzim, and then received a MA in teaching from Ben Gurion University.  As part of his Master thesis, he developed a program for teaching science entitled, “Fly to Physics.”  He taught science in Israel for ten years before emigrating to the United States and completed his requirements to be a mathematics teacher in the New York City public school system. David joined Schechter Queens as the Middle School Science teacher in 2007. He is also the Schechter Queens mathematics and STEAM coach and has mentored the students to winning competitions for many years.

“I was hired as the middle school science teacher at Schechter Queens, where I have the pleasure of teaching and inspiring our young students about the mysteries and wonders of our natural world.”
