Ventilator Support Machine
Yaakov Heiman, happily married and the father of three children, is thankfully now back at home after three months of hospitalization and inpatient treatment for Covid-19. Although he initially tested negative for the virus, after days of high fever, his son brought him to the hospital, where he was admitted to the Corona Intensive Care Unit. When his lungs collapsed a few days later, Yaakov gave permission to the medical team to anesthetize him and connect him to a ventilator. He remained on the ventilator for a full month. His signs gradually stabilized and he began opening his eyes, but Yaakov woke up in a state of confusion, neither recognizing where he was nor his family members. He was transferred to Reuth Rehabilitation Center, where he arrived in a wheelchair; he had extreme muscle weakness and was unable to hold even a glass of water. After many weeks of physiotherapy and occupational therapy administered by Reuth’s dedicated medical staff, Yaakov slowly regained independent functioning and was able to return home at last.
