The walk be led by a local historian, Chuck Ludlam.  A small part of the walk will take place on a 30 yard trail which is slightly steep.  

We will meet at Dennard Plaza, which is located in the middle of the UDC campus.  We will focus on the Springland Farm Community where 100 homes were located on the Adlum Farm.  This farm was the home of John Adlum, who was the Father of American Viticulture. 

 

We will also learn about the major institutions founded on the farm in the 1900’s and the enslaved individuals of the farm.  It will be also interesting to learn about the namesakes of the roads in the area-Van Ness, Reno, Upton and Tilden.
