Janet Warm Fliegelman, long-time member of our staff as the chief operating officer, stepped up to lead the organization as Executive Director through our 2018 and 2019 seasons with great success. With the institution of important organizational changes and program updates, 2020 was looking to be the best yet -- until, of course, COVID-19 hit. She was able to quickly transition our team's focus to navigating the unique and unexpected challenges created by the pandemic, with great concern for what a summer without camp would mean for campers, staff, and our organization.  Janet has been with NJY Camps since 2000 beginning as summer staff, while running the technology center at Solomon Schechter Day School of Raritan Valley.  She joined the agency full time in 2007. 

 

Janet has a lifelong commitment to serving the Jewish community.  As a student, she was a USY Chapter President and Regional Board Member, active member of the University of Pennsylvania Hillel. She served her local communities as Sisterhood President and Board Member of Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains, Board Member of East Brunswick Jewish Center and Solomon Schechter Day School of Raritan Valley.  Whether participating in a SSSJ (Student Struggle for Soviet Jews) rally, driving for Kosher meals on wheels, running a Day School afternoon enrichment program. developing the school web site, or soliciting funds for UJA/Federation, Janet has always been a “hands on” dedicated volunteer. 

 

Janet was a camper at Cedar Lake Camp and Teen Camp in the 70’s.  She and her husband Arthur are parents of J.J., Oren and Mindy who spent their summers as NJY campers and staff.   Through her own family’s experience, as well those of thousands of NJY campers, Janet believes in the transformative power of children’s camp as a way of ensuring our Jewish future.
