In song and service, Toby has generously given her time, musical talents, and beautiful heart to Congregation Har Shalom for nearly 45 years.
As a past President of our Sisterhood and in various roles on the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, School Board, clergy searches, affinity groups, and event teams, Toby leads with energy, enthusiasm, and a deep desire to be more than a “Jew in a Pew.” In fact, she considers sh’lichat tzibbur or service leader as her most cherished role. Why? As Toby proudly shares: “I love being Jewish and I love being Jewish at Har Shalom." That love of song extends to her participation in eight of the most recent Har Shalom Players productions, of which she is most proud of her roles as Flotsam alongside Jetsam played by Andy Zuckerman’s z”l (The Little Mermaid, 2020) and Lord Pinkelton (Cinderella, 2023).
With her beloved husband of 47 years and “biggest cheerleader” Matthew Holtzman z”l, Toby nurtured a beautiful family including two daughters, Irene and Rebecca, and numerous cats. She is a doting grandmother to twins, Oliver and Charley.
Toby is an International Vice President for Women’s League for Conservative Judaism – and is helping 40 women prepare to become Bat Mitzvah in July 2026 at the Women’s League Convention.
