Stan Weisberger
Temple Israel
Stan Weisberger takes pride in his heritage, family, friends and faith. Raised in Western Pennsylvania in the 1950s and 1960 in the heart of the American steel industry, he was very active in AZA and served as chapter president (Gadol) as well as District president. He focused on Southwestern Pennsylvania and all of West Virginia. It was a challenge to get a small number of Jewish children organized and working for a common goal. He loved traveling by bus to small towns and seeing the enthusiasm and working together which was immeasurably rewarding. From this early experience, he learned patience, perseverance and humility.A brief enrollment at what is now Cleveland State University showed he wasn't ready to fit into other people's boxes, so Stan joined the Navy. He learned the value of listening to others (his wife may sometimes disagree), to follow orders and to try to get along with everyone. The Navy also helped Stan meet his lovely wife of 53 years, Cecilia, at Jewish Chapel at Naval Operating Base Norfolk (her first time there). They later married in that very same Chapel after a two year courtship and a deployment to Guam. During his time with the Navy he first attended Temple Israel for High Holiday Services and found it warm and friendly.Settling in eastern Virginia, Stan earned a marketing degree from Old Dominion University. This led to a 38 year career in Mortgage Banking in Raleigh N.C. and Virginia. Stan and Cecilia also raised two wonderful, independent children, Jennifer and Leslie.
In recent times he's become known as the chief cook and bottle washer for Temple Israel's breakfasts. He's served on the Sukkah Committee helping to erect the Sukkah for services. He's honored to be recognized by this group that is truly dear to me.
