Danny Stern became active in the Beth Israel Brotherhood in 1977 when he joined its Board.  He became Brotherhood President in 1983 and was elected President of the Seaboard Region in 1989.  It was during his term that the Blue Yarmulke Dinner started almost 30 years ago.  After that, Danny was elected a Vice President of the FJMC in 1995 and served as International President from 2003 through 2005.  He also served as a Vice President of Mercaz USA for those two years and as a board member of the JTS and Ziegler Rabbinical Schools.  He was chairman of the Leadership Council of Conservative Judaism from 2004-2005. 

 

Since that time he has remained active in his Brotherhood, the region, and the FJMC.  He has served on the Executive Committee of Beth Israel Congregation, serves on several committees, is a Gabbai, Torah and Haftorah reader, and leads daily and shiva minyans.  Danny and his wife Sheila are the proud parents of three children: Dr. Jamie Stern (Dr. Marc Adelsheimer); Dr. Bobby Stern (Dr. Gillian Schweitzer); and Melissa Lala (Tope Lala).  They have eight grandchildren – Hannah, Hayley, Rachel, Samantha, Trevor, Jacob, Jessie, and Talia.
