Lifetime Achievement Honoree - Max Goldberg
If anyone is deserving of inclusion in Seaboard’s Lifetime Achievement Society, it’s Max Goldberg.
A native of Washington, Max studied Hebrew as a child with Hazzan and Shamas Moses Yoelson, the father of Al Jolson. He became a member of Adas Israel Congregation at the time of his bar mitzvah in 1932. He started his incredible legacy of leadership when he became president of the Adas Israel Men’s Club in 1959, and he went on to become Seaboard Region president and international president of the National Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs. He served as president of Adas Israel Congregation from 1979-83 and also held positions with the Rabbinical Assembly, the Jewish Theological Seminary, and the United Synagogue of America.
Max received his law degree in 1941 and practiced law in Washington and Maryland for more than 40 years. His honors included the Melvin Jones Fellow Award by Lions International and the President’s Memorial Award from the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs for his efforts on behalf of Judaism.
Max passed away in 2018 at age 98, and was survived by his wife Reeva of 67 years, three children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. His leadership over his lifetime embodies what all of us should strive for.
