Ronnie Faber, Founders Award
It all started with her mother. Born in Vienna, Austria, Melanie Oelbaum is a Holocaust survivor who came to America on the Kindertransport. Melanie understood what it meant to be without a family, leading her to become a founding member of Emunah, Past National President and dedicated defender and champion of Israel's most vulnerable children. Ronnie’s mother channeled her loss and devoted her life to the children and families of Emunah, building futures and foundations of the Jewish State. Melanie's devotion to children started at home, raising incredible, dedicated children who carry on her mission and share her values.
As far as Ronnie can remember, Emunah has been a part of her life. Ronnie grew up observing Emunah meetings in when Emunah was a young organization helping to build the State of Israel and saw Emunah grow from subway coins to Gala Dinners. This was the beginning of Ronnie’s Emunah journey.
Ronnie married Albert Faber and together they moved to the Upper West Side. Ronnie quickly saw an opportunity to start an Emunah chapter, forming the still vibrant Avital Chapter. During this time, she developed a strong committee of like-minded women who helped raise funds for Emunah projects in Israel. Years later, with her husband Albert moved to Teaneck, New Jersey where they raise their four children, Mordechai, Daniel, Yossi, and Sara. Although Ronnie was a busy mom, she still found the time to volunteer and build up the Aderet chapter, which later to become the Libby Kolb Chapter in Teaneck. Ronnie was always bringing Emunah, Emunah’s mission and her family values to every community she joined. Ronnie successfully engaged, and continues to engage, women in the New Jersey area, raising essential funds for Emunah, overseeing and planning missions, walkathons, kallah teas, karaoke nights, basketball tournaments, book reviews, concerts, parlor meetings, and countless bake sales. You name it, Ronnie has done it
Ronnie is most proud of her children and their involvement with the organization. Like Ronnie, her children have been helping Emunah, whether it was stuffing envelopes, putting bags together, or shlepping. Emunah is important, and her family is always there to help when needed. Proudly, her adult children have now continued in their grandmother's and mother's footsteps, funding dental projects, chairing boutiques and more. Recently, Ronnie’s oldest grandchild, Yonatan, hosted a basketball tournament for his Bar Mitzvah chesed project, raising thousands of dollars for outdoor games and equipment for Lone Soldiers for the Bet Elazraki home in Netanya. Ronnie’s Emunah legacy continues to blaze a trail of chesed through four generations!
Ronnie’s personal Emunah story doesn’t stop there. Ronnie's role at Emunah transitioned from lay leader to non-profit professional 17 years ago, becoming an integral part of the Development team. Although Ronnie was professionally trained as a social worker, it was a natural pivot to fundraiser. Ronnie’s passion for Emunah’s mission and commitment makes her an invaluable member of Emunah. Ronnie’s current position, Senior Director of Philanthropy, is her most challenging but successful role, stewarding key donors, soliciting and securing donations and connecting Emunah with honorees who will fuel Emunah's future. Ronnie values her relationships and lasting friendships she has made through the years.
