Linda and her husband Alex have strong ties to Judaism. They met in 1976 on a B’nai Brith tour of Israel, where they not only fell in love with Israel’s culture, but also with each other. They have been married for 42 years and became members of Midway almost immediately after moving to Long Island. Midway became like their second home. Both their children, David and Rachel, attended nursery school, Hebrew school, and Hebrew high school at Midway. They demonstrate the values that were taught at Midway and by Linda and Alex. David and Rachel are both married, and Rachel has a delightful little son.

Linda graduated from Boston University with a Bachelors of Education in Elementary Education and Early Childhood and received her Master's in Special Education from Queens College.

Linda has an endless desire and capacity to help others! In recent years, Linda has devoted countless hours to assisting her parents with their medical needs. Linda has been chairperson of Midway’s Social Action Committee for many, many years. This involvement has led her to alliances with Hatzilu Rescue Organization, Literacy Nassau, Mitzvah Day, Lone Soldier Organization, Tikkun Alliance of North Shore (TANS), FEGS, AFYA Foundation, Hesse Committee, Senior Citizen Assistance, and Family & Children’s Association.

Linda is an extremely talented crocheter and sewist. She started as a child by crocheting yarmulkas and now is capable of making showcase-worthy pocketbooks and clothing. Recently, she has enjoyed making special outfits for her 2½ years old grandson and a 30-animal wall hanging for his room. Linda even found a way to bring her talents into community service. She started Midway’s Stitch & Kvell group. Together they crochet blankets for We Care Blankets, a non-profit organization that distributes handmade blankets for hospitalized children with cancer.

Linda is one of six children. She grew up on Long Island in a close-knit conservative Jewish family. The family is still very close today. She went through Hebrew school and then continued her Jewish involvement by attending Jewish seminars in high school. She was also a member of B’nai Brith Youth Organization in high school.

Linda is an animal lover. She had two family dogs, which lived a better life than some humans! She was there for their every need. Linda expanded her desire to help others even further by training one of her dogs to be a therapy dog.

Linda loves organic gardening and has an extensive vegetable garden in her yard. Alex, who is a very talented woodworker, helped Linda build her raised beds. Linda expanded her love for gardening when she established Midway’s CSA fifteen years ago. She developed an alliance with the Golden Earthworm Farm. Midway members enjoy weekly fruit and vegetable shares which benefits both the farm and the Midway participants. Some of the Hatzilu clients also benefit from weekly CSA produce deliveries.

Social action and a commitment to help others have resonated within Linda’s entire family. Alex devoted many years volunteering for the Long Island Crisis Center and is a volunteer fire fighter for Syosset Fire Department. Her son, David, is a family physician with a second degree in Public Health, caring for the safety of the public; her daughter Rachel’s yearning for justice drove her to become an attorney.

As you can tell, Linda has been a cornerstone in the community for decades. It is with the greatest pleasure that we officially recognize Linda’s dedication to helping all people in need.
