In 2001, Sheryl and George celebrated their Auf Ruf at North Shore Jewish Center and became synagogue members. Sheryl moved to Long Island after their marriage. Later on, the congregation warmly welcomed their twin girls, Julia and Louva. And so began the Roberts family commitment and devotion to NSJC. George polished the synagogue silver prior to the High Holy Days. Louva and Julia participated in many synagogue activities. And Sheryl maintained a continuous active role serving on committees, inviting congregants to their home, and serving on the NSJC Board of Trustees. She is now Sisterhood President. Additionally, Sheryl has degrees and experience as a teacher and administrator as well as other varied vocational accomplishments. She has "worn many hats" which contributes to her experience and excellence in whatever endeavor she undertakes.

 

When Covid came, the usual hums, buzzes and sounds so familiar within the walls of NSJC became quiet and remained silent for far too long. We were becoming too familiar and comfortable with streaming. Sheryl took on the responsibility of changing the quiet and desolate to a happy and busy place of camaraderie with renewal of in-person activities.

 

Sheryl took the leadership role of becoming NSJC Sisterhood President. With that title and subsequent responsibility, Sheryl's style of leadership involved the development and growth of a dynamic Sisterhood Board as well as a calendar full of various activities. Sheryl understands the value of committee work as well as the importance of involving as many women as possible. Through her leadership and perseverance, Sheryl reestablished a dynamic and functioning Sisterhood with numerous activities as well as the creation and renewal of friendships.

 

Sheryl does not hesitate to call upon past presidents, former chairs, or new members for participation, help, suggestions and to spread the word for a successful and fulfilling Sisterhood community. She is a true leader.
