Levana Lichter was born in Israel 70 years ago. She studied for her BA in Hebrew Literature and Education at Bar-Ilan University in Israel.

 

Levana came to the United States 39 years ago. She is a lifelong teacher and learner. As a teacher at the Schechter School of Long Island for 28 years, she found so much satisfaction and fulfillment. Levana now teaches at the Hebrew School of Merrick Jewish Center.

 

As a perpetual student herself, Levana loves learning and finds great joy in teaching Torah. Levana still goes to a few lessons every week. She has been a regular participant in Rabbi Androphy’s Adult Education courses: “Midrash Mondays” and Bible.

 

Levana loves to paint. She has shared her knowledge about Israel and Torah and her artistic talents in Adult Education programs at both Temple Beth-El of Bellmore (TBE) and East Meadow Beth-El Jewish Center. She wrote a column at TBE, “Learning with Levana”, in which she shared what she had learned in various courses and spoke about her experiences on trips to Israel. At the newly consolidated East Meadow Beth-El Jewish Center, Levana taught Zoom classes about beloved songs of Israel, Havdalah and Jerusalem. She also led a Zoom painting class.

 

Levana has three "good" (her word) successful children: Opher, her eldest, an Executive VP of a major advertising company, is married to the lovely Janet. They live on Long Island and gave her Shira, her precious, talented and smart granddaughter. Coby, the middle child, an engineer for the municipality of Los Angeles living in California, is married to his lovely wife, Gabrielle. Rivka is her youngest; Rivka lives in Suffolk County and works in accounting. 

 

Levana is honored to have been chosen as the 2023 Woman of Achievement for EMBEJC and is looking forward to future opportunities to share her knowledge with her Sisterhood.
