In 1991, Barbara and Marc Ehrenpreis, along with their two children, Michael and Debra, moved to Jericho, and joined the Jericho Jewish Center (JJC). Both their children went to the JJC Hebrew School and celebrated their B’Nai Mitzvah at JJC. Barbara volunteered on the JJC Board of Education and became an active member of the JJC Sisterhood.
Barbara can always be counted on to lend a helping hand and is one of our dedicated members who arranges Shiva dinners for Sisterhood members in their time of mourning. Presently, Barbara serves on the Sisterhood Board, is a JJC Board of Trustee, and is working on the Membership Committee.
Barbara is originally from South Africa, and she met her husband, Marc, in Israel. Professionally, Barbara is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, working as a Hospice Social Worker, as well as an Adjunct Professor at LIE-Post School of Social Work. Barbara earned her Masters Degree in Social Work at Adelphi University. Using her expertise, Barbara facilitated a Sisterhood Program entitled “Everything you wanted to know about Advance Directives and choosing a Health Care Proxy but were not comfortable asking.” Barbara is very active in the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), New York State chapter where she is a member of the NYS Ethics Committee.
In her spare time, Barbara loves gardening, swimming, and completing jigsaw puzzles.
Barbara's son Michael is married to Julie; they have one son named Max. Daughter Debra is married to Mark; they have two children, Noah and Adina.
Barbara is honored to have been chosen as the 2023 Woman of Achievement and looks forward to continuing to make Jericho Jewish Center her Jewish “home away from home” for prayer, support and continued devotion to her community.
