Over 60 years ago, Isabel and her husband Edwin, along with 16 other families, founded Shelter Rock Jewish Center. While Ed supervised the sanctuary construction, Isabel helped with fundraising, education and the formation of the synagogue's Sisterhood. Isabel’s love of learning, her strong Jewish identity and her passion to serve others were powerful strengths she brought to the Sisterhood.

 

Isabel graduated with honors from Adelphi University, receiving two master’s degrees, also from Adelphi. She taught Special Education in the Roslyn and Jericho School Districts while raising five children.

 

Over the years Isabel tirelessly took leadership roles in Shelter Rock Jewish Center’s community. She was President of the Sisterhood (1965-1967) and then again (2010-2012), Vice-President and Secretary of the Shelter Rock Jewish Center, Shelter Rock Jewish Center’s Bulletin editor, Adult Education lecturer on prominent Jewish leaders, Chairperson of the Synagogue’s Bazaar, Bar and Bat Mitzvah tutor, and Organizer of the Shelter Rock Jewish Center’s Bridge Club. Outside of her synagogue work, Isabel was President of LIJ Service Guild, member of the Board of Education for Herricks Public Schools and Director of Denton Green Housing Co., a non-profit organization that provides housing for lower and middle-income seniors.
