ועתה כתבו לכם את השירה הזאת ולמדה את בני ישראל שימה בפיהם למען תהיה לי השירה הזאת לעד בבני ישראל
Parashat Vayelekh (Devarim 31:19)
The shira in this verse is referring to the song that comes next - Ha'azinu.
And yet, the Halakhah says that it's referring to the entire Torah,
the Torah refers to itself as a shira.
Many commentators discuss the different meanings of this concept. For example,
just as everyone at any age can appreciate a good piece of music, so too everyone at any age
can have an appreciation for Torah. Also, learning Torah is like listening to a song
in the sense that emotion and excitement are a vital part of it.
This is how Shira conducts her classroom. She is able to convey the deep meaning, excitement,
love, and passion that every Jew should have for the Torah and Mitzvot to her students.
Her love of Torah and expertise in Kodesh education has inspired many of our students
and staff. Whenever you see Shira, her smile lights up the room, she makes a connection
with you and is always available to help make your day a little better.
Just like a really good song would.
Mazel Tov on this well-deserved honor!
