Julie Brookler was born and raised in Los Angeles.  She attended UCLA where she met her husband.  They moved to Orange County, California where they raised their four children.

She was a teacher, spending much of her career working in a very ethnically diverse school district,  teaching Parent Education classes.  Four years ago she retired and moved to Silver Spring to be with children and grandchildren.

Julie began volunteering for Bikur Cholim of Greater Washington during the pandemic.  She weekly shops for and stocks needed items in the Kosher Pantry at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.  She has delivered Shabbat meals to home bound seniors on a regular basis, as well as for Jewish holidays.  She is involved in the Senior Social Club, planning and implementing programs.  She also calls and visits people whom she has met through volunteering for BCGW.

She sees the need for many volunteers because Bikur Cholim serves a large geographic area and helps with many different kinds of needs.  The fact that the staff is so professional and so responsive is a plus and it’s a huge plus that they are flexible enough to accommodate her often changing schedule.  As a relative newcomer to both Kemp Mill and Bikur Cholim, she has found volunteering a wonderful way to help the community as well as to integrate in it.

Julie and her husband , Jerry live in Kemp Mill and are members of YISE.
