Michelle & Yona Conzevoy
Tiferet Award
Michelle and Yona's connection to Beth Jacob began long before they met. Yona's journey started in the children's choir with Cantor Pinchas Rabinovich, while Michelle was drawn to the shul after hearing about it from friends during her high school years. When they returned to Los Angeles, they were warmly welcomed by Rabbi Weil and Rabbi Mandel, quickly becoming active and engaged members of a community they proudly call their religious home.
Raised in opposite ends of the San Fernando Valley, Yona grew up in Valley Village, attending Valley Torah High School, while Michelle, from Tarzana, graduated from YULA Girls High School. Michelle earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Communication Studies at Cal State Northridge, becoming a tenured professor at Pierce College, where she has taught since 2004. Meanwhile, Yona pursued higher education in New York, attending Columbia University for both college and law school before clerking for the Texas Supreme Court.
After meeting during their studies, Michelle and Yona married in 2005, eventually settling in Pico-Robertson and joining Beth Jacob, where they raised their three children: Emma, Baron, and Clive. Deeply involved in the shul, they have organized programs, led services, served on committees, and participated in many community-building initiatives. The shul has been central to their family's spiritual growth and life-cycle celebrations.
Yona has been practicing law for 20 years and launched his own law practice in 2014, focusing on Trust and Estates litigation, Probate, and Halachic Estate Planning. Michelle continues to excel as an educator, curriculum writer, and communications consultant. Both also find time to volunteer, with Michelle advocating for Israel and combating antisemitism, and Yona enjoying Torah study and tennis.
Married for nearly 20 years, Michelle and Yona have celebrated many milestones at Beth Jacob. They look forward to sharing more joyous occasions with their beloved community and continuing their active involvement in the shul's vibrant life.
