Meet Pam, a tiny powerhouse of a woman and philanthropic leader who leads and supports numerous charitable organizations. Pam has a deep connection to Beth Jacob Congregation, as her grandparents, Howard and Anna Spellman, were members at the West Adams location from the 1930s until 1952. Pam, a true Angeleno, was raised in the West Adams area of Los Angeles, and has roots in the city that date back to the 1920s where she spent her first years living with her mother, grandmother and aunt, while her father was stationed in England during World War II.

Her late husband, Mark z”l, was a Holocaust survivor, successful real estate developer and builder of Beth Jacob. Mark, his parents, brother and members of his immediate family survived the Terezin concentration camp.  Miraculously, Mark, his brother Emery and his 2 cousins were four of the 104 children remaining in the camp at liberation.  Mark, originally from Czechoslovakia, met Pam in 1962 and the two were married later that year, going on to have three children between 1963 and 1969 – Caren, Brian and Michelle – all of whom are graduates of Hillel Hebrew Academy. In 1965, the family moved to Beverlywood, and once again joined Beth Jacob Congregation – this time located in Beverly Hills.  From the 1970’s Mark’s company operated primarily in Riverside County and his company continues to design, build and own numerous development projects – including their latest project, the Mark which a mixed use residential and retail building.

Pam and Mark are both known for their charitable contributions and involvement in various organizations, such as the Los Angeles Jewish Home (Pam’s great uncle and aunt were two of the Home’s founders).  Pam also continues to make a positive impact on the world through her charitable efforts including serving as director of the Los Angeles Jewish Home, chair of the UC Riverside School of Medicine Advisory Board, trustee of Sierra Canyon School, benefactor of National World War II Museum, regent at Mount Saint Mary's College, and founder of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. Today, Pam is surrounded by lots of love and attention from her children and grandchildren - Aaron, Evan, Brock and Eva.
