Eddie and Lily Friedman, both dynamic members of the Columbus Jewish community, were raised by  parents who survived the tragedies of the Holocaust. Their parents, z”l, lovingly passed on to them a strong Jewish identity and love of family.

 

Lily is an only child, born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Eddie, was born in Lublin, Poland. He immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1952, arriving by ship from Europe. He grew up in Toronto. Ed and Lily are the blessed parents of five sons, three daughters-in-law, 6 granddaughters and 2 grandsons.

Eddie and Lily’s parents gave them a strong foundation in Judaism, by filling their homes with a love of Torah and mitzvos. Ed and Lily attended Hebrew schools growing up, and are members of and regularly attend the services at Ahavas Sholom.

 

Eddie and Lily were introduced by his first cousin in Cleveland. He was a college friend of Lily’s at the University of Cincinnati. Soon after they married and settled in Toronto.

Business interests brought Eddie and Lily to Columbus and the city has had a wonderful impact on their lives; making new friends and connections at Ahavas Sholom and the Columbus business community. They are also very satisfied with the excellent education their sons received at the Columbus Torah Academy. They both appreciate Columbus for it’s warm, supportive, energized, and committed Jewish community.

 

Eddie enjoys hiking, skiing, camping, piloting small airplanes, reading, riding motorcycles, collecting vintage cars and learning gemorah with Rabbi Morris of the Columbus Kollel. Eddie has served on the board of Beth Jacob Synagogue, was president of the Columbus Community Kollel for 12 years, directed shul youth programs, has been a board member of the Columbus Torah Academy as well as the Hillel at the Ohio State University.

 

Lily enjoys healthy cooking, theater, improv comedy, dance, reading, meditation and puzzles. Lily is also an accomplished chef.

 

Lily is very involved with the Columbus community. She was a docent at the Columbus Museum of Art for 5 years and has taught essential cooking skills at the Columbus Torah Academy for 7 years.

Lily and Eddie can easily be proud of their five sons; Chad, an attorney is married to Mara; Steven a mechanical engineer is married to Allison; Daniel is an architect and a manufacturer;  Robbie an attorney and startup entrepreneur is married to Tali; and David, their youngest, lives in New York. They also receive much nachas from their grandchildren; Yael, Hanna, Liev, Shai, Charlie, Silvi, Orli, and Rosie. All their children received a Jewish day school education, and their grandchildren are being educated in the same manner.

 

Eddie and Lily feel that, for them, being part of Ahavas Sholom, is synonymous “with friendship and the fulfillment of their Jewish core”.
