Carlyle once received a letter from a young man which read like this:
“Mr. Carlyle, I wish to be a teacher. Will you tell me the secret of successful training?”
Carlyle immediately wrote back: “Be what you would have your pupils be. All other teaching is unblessed mockery and aspery.”

Maryland Model For School Readiness Training
MMSR-101
The Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR) is an innovative approach to training child care providers in the readiness criteria for public school. CJE has contracted with Committee for Children to provide the training necessary to support implementation of the MMSR in your school. This high-quality, highly interactive training is organized along four basic strands: observation; assessment; documentation; and connecting with children, families, schools and instruction.
The training consists of 9 six-hour training modules hosted over the school year. The training modules build upon one another to improve learning environments for young children. This training content, which includes use of the Work Sampling System (WSS), corresponds to content areas specified as the "core of knowledge" required for the Maryland Child Care Credential. Successful completion of the MMSR training qualifies a provider for the Credential. In addition to the training, technical assistance site visits are conducted in order for participants to better incorporate the training into their everyday practice.

The Pedagogy of Discovery with Lincoln Center Institute
RIM-0221
Reflecting educational philosopher-in-residence Maxine Greene’s teachings, LCI has developed an approach to teaching and learning now subscribed to across the country. Educators interact with works of art – in our case, music - and are guided by teaching artists. Participants experience innovative and effective ways to explore artwork, developing a framing question called the “line of inquiry” (LOI).
This investigation flows between doing and examining, using a variety of learning modalities. The inquiry seeks to establish a deeper observation and analysis of the artwork, both as a group and individually. Multiple perspectives are embraced, even as the group develops a common vocabulary and understanding, and repeated encounters with the work of art allow for refinement. Connections to the classroom may lead to new questions to pursue in this cycle of asking, looking, and learning. LCI believes that this approach to fostering imaginative learning can be applied across the curriculum.
This session will count for six full hours of RIMON credit for teachers who complete a corresponding follow-up project and attend a networking session.
